4. Persona and idea development

Persona of a regular gamer according to our user research

The persona reflects our user research of regular gamers. It helps us to empathize and focus our ideas to the person who we are designing for as it defines the major user needs.

Here is a persona of an average 23 -year-old regular gamer called Mike. He is very loyal to his old friends and plays mostly to relax and to spend his free time.

Our experience from the ideation session

We had our regular Monday meeting and this time it was an ideation session.

  • We used a brainstorming ideation method in three ways.
    • We first wrote all of our ideas down individually for 5 minutes.
    • Then we shared our ideas one at a time going through all the ideas without any censure.
    • Lastly the team had to add to the brainstorming of the team mate sharing his/her ideas.
  • The idea was to come up as many solutions as possible focusing on the quantity more than the quality.
  • After the process, we talked about which ideas sparked our interest and could be further developed.
    • We wrote them all down and voted for the ones that were most fun but also useful
    • We further analyzed the chosen ideas by identifying both positive and negative aspects of each of the ideas
    • The ideas were categorized into themes
      • Rewards
      • Time based problem solving
      • Stories/themes
      • Marketing strategies
      • Charitable campaigns
  • The number of ideas we got through brainstorming: 16
  • What worked in the method:
    • Time saving method
    • We got new ideas to the table
    • Writing ideas first independently
    • Everyone had their opportunity to contribute
  • What was hard:
    • It was hard to let your mind wonder from the fixed ideas you already had
    • Hard to innovate under time pressure
    • The subject is quite new and sometimes hard to think about solutions that would work
  • What ideas we chose and why:
    • Theme and story related problems seemed to be presented in everyone's ideas. It was also supported by the interviews we had done previously.
    • Getting the purposeful tasks from kansalaisaloite.fi after getting enough votes was supported. Also giving the players possibility to vote for interesting topics was thought to be a good idea.
    • Trophy road like solution where donations are made based on the completed achievements
    • Reward should be something exclusive which can't be gotten other ways than playing the specific expansion
    • Maybe an update which must be downloaded before players can continue playing
    • Time limits/ extra points or prices to the fastest players.
  • How this brainstorming affected our development process:
    • Brainstorming let us go further in our idea development in much shorter time.

Short summary of each team member’s contribution/tasks since the last post
